My sister, Penelope, has her birthday in July, on the 24th. I remember that I picked the 28th for a son that was born to me in July, 1972. It
was closer to my sister's birthday and the nurses had me pick which day since he was born so close to
midnight. As you all know, he was adopted by a wonderful couple three days after his birth. I was reunited with him when he turned 40 years old which is very symbolic (the 40 days of Lent), and all of this has a very biblical meaning to me!
Anyway, I dedicate the
following poem-song to Penelope and to Serrat and Diego Torres, who made the
song "Penelope" popular. My
sister is a person who always talks about doing some great action for others,
she tries to do it, and I believe that someone who talks so much about
something like that will eventually do it. I think she does do many things for others, and perhaps it goes unnoticed! There are many people who
think altruistically, but it is not much in the news!

"SHE GAVE HER SON..." (From the Bible)
THE SEARCHER OF HEARTS
(Esp. For Penelope June)
Pray, says the lord.
Tell me all your hopes and dreams.
What is it that you truly want?
Is your life all that it seems?
What do you have to give to me?
What first fruits do you have?
What is your offering?
Can you cure the sickness of a malignant disease?
Can you the disabled and elderly please?
Is there food somewhere in your many bins?
That to the poor and hungry could have better ends?
What are your desires?
Do you know of spiritual fires?
What is deep within the most intimate of your heart?
Can you release your love, and from selfishness depart?
Like the Indians who did not individually own, yet lived from the land...
Pray, (you now), contemplate it, and understand...
I, your lord, have a better, bigger plan!
Pray, says the lord.
Tell me all your hopes and dreams.
What is it that you truly want?
Is your life all that it seems?
