Poem from my files! THE BIG HIKE!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
4 July, 2012.
THE BIG HIKE
(Dedicated to John A. Buchtel, and my friend Ana Laiza,
who are both near 40 this year! and have birthdates in July.)
Who are "we"?
Those who walk in love
and do the will of our father are destined to be truly free.
40 years are so symbolic and have much meaning.
The signs of our times are quite bewildering...
The Universe is much bigger than our tiny Earth.
There are pains and labor, expectations of re-birth.
My plea is to the countries with Liberation dates in July.
The U.S., Argentina, France, Canada, Peru, and others, all to try...
To open up to solidarity,
And to consider alternatives, altruism, conservation,
When thinking of how the future can be!!!

A DAILY PRAYER (From my files!)

Asunto: Re: SONGS OF DELIVERANCE - A DAILY PRAYER NOT MUCH NEWS, BUT I HAVE ANOTHER POEM FOR YOU ALL!
    A DAILY PRAYER
In the quietness of my solitary room
Thoughts of love cause new buds of flowers to bloom.
    In solitude, a lonely task:
For the making of a better World I ask.
I take some time each day to plead
And implore for all and everyone, to fill their need,
For health for soul and body if you please,
For the entire World from seas to shinning seas.

After reading Psalm 32 "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered...(etc.), where it says "You shall surround me with songs of deliverance", I decided to write some poems called "Songs of Deliverance".  This is one of them.

Poem: THE SEARCHER OF HEARTS (from my files!)

My sister, Penelope, has her birthday in July, on the 24th.  I remember that I picked the 28th for a son that was born to me in July, 1972.  It was closer to my sister's birthday and the nurses had me pick which day since he was born so close to midnight.  As you all know, he was adopted by a wonderful couple three days after his birth.  I was reunited with him when he turned 40 years old which is very symbolic (the 40 days of Lent), and all of this has a very biblical meaning to me!

Anyway, I dedicate the following poem-song to Penelope and to Serrat and Diego Torres, who made the song "Penelope" popular.  My sister is a person who always talks about doing some great action for others, she tries to do it, and I believe that someone who talks so much about something like that will eventually do it.  I think she does do many things for others, and perhaps it goes unnoticed!  There are many people who think altruistically, but it is not much in the news!

THE SEARCHER OF HEARTS
   (Esp. For Penelope June)

Pray, says the lord.
Tell me all your hopes and dreams.
What is it that you truly want?
Is your life all that it seems?

What do you have to give to me?
What first fruits do you have?
What is your offering?

Can you cure the sickness of a malignant disease?
Can you the disabled and elderly please?

Is there food somewhere in your many bins?
That to the poor and hungry could have better ends?

What are your desires?
Do you know of spiritual fires?

What is deep within the most intimate of your heart?
Can you release your love, and from selfishness depart?

Like the Indians who did not individually own,  yet lived from the land...
Pray, (you now), contemplate it, and understand...
I, your lord, have a better, bigger plan!

Pray, says the lord.
Tell me all your hopes and dreams.
What is it that you truly want?
Is your life all that it seems?

SECRETS! Another poem I had dedicated to Kurt for his Birthday in 2009!

SECRETS
God know what each feels deep inside...

God knows, and in him we can always confide!

Every little thing...
Even what one tries to hide!

The world is seen differently

by each architect, engineer, poet or teacher.
Or through the eyes of a mechanic, iron maker,
                                                              or even preacher!

And like a banker who wisely lends,
a proficient storyteller knows when a good story ends!

Yet the true believer sees other dimensions,
has no limits for love, there are always new inventions!

No one needs to repeat
 what in spirit we understand...
And it is in Spirit
that we reach the promised land.

SOUL DE POETA! A poem in Spanish from my files!

SOUL DE POETA
A long time ago in a Creative Writing class the teacher, Mrs. Bevens, told us that it is a good idea to put what we write away and not look at it for a few weeks before we do something with it.  This is good advice.  Today I changed the title of the following from "El Alrededor" to "Soul de Poeta".  It is a play on words of "soul" and "sol".  I just found out that one of my ex-student's Bosses died.  He was only 39 years old and died of Cancer.  So remember to be there for the ones who are alive.  I was with my mother when she died, and when she was taking her last breaths I was holding her hand.  Just as I took my hand away she died and I felt a huge presence fill the room.  I am convinced it was her Spirit leaving her.  I felt as if a bit of that Spirit entered me and over the years grew.

When I went to our Family reunion at Christmastime in 1998, my brother Paul talked about the "soul of a poet".  He said his son's name, Aaron, means "soul of a poet", and that is why he named him with that name.  I don't know if this is true, but it had a big impact on me!

SOUL DE POETA
Bis: No busquen en los muertos...
        No busquen en los muertos...
        Al que aun esta´ vivo.

"Luchare´ con Ustedes.
Estaré con Ustedes...
Hasta El Fin...

Luchare´ con Ustedes.
Estaré con Ustedes...
Hasta El Fin...del Mundo"

Dejen lo viejo, para algo nuevo.
Es un paso, que hay que darse.

No se encierren en sí mismo;
Ábranse al alrededor.

No se encierren en sí mismo,
Ábranse al Buen Amor.
Para poder entrar y salir para compatir!

Al final somos iguales;
El sol brilla para mal o para bien.

Si vemos en el otro, nosotros mismos...
Nos abrimos a una historia muy buena, NUEVA ¡sin fin!
