Not too many days ago I was riding my bike after my pilates class at my 70 years of age! I came across some traffic that was unexpected. Just before that I had been (shall we say praying in my manner) thinking if I should fall and could I be protected in precarious situations in life, etc.
I attempted to slow down and put on the brakes and made a half circle feeling like I was in midair. "Surely, I will fall", I thought "and at my age it could be disasterous". Somehow I managed to make another half circle again feeling myself in the air and still closer to the pavement. Somehow (it was like some inexplicable force manipulated the handle bars) and the bike made another half circle that avoided the cars so that I could continue on my way as if nothing had happened. I shouted out, "casi" (almost) to a shocked onlooker who seemed to be prepared to pick me up off the street if I fell.
This detail has impacted my way of thinking and has helped me feel willing to place myself with more confidence into my actions with less fear while at the same time helping me to consider those actions more profoundly. And, of course, made me realize how important it is to do positive actions and be humble!
In the 70s and 80s, my youngest brother (of us 10 siblings) used to always say "awesome" for any situation. All of creation is so awesome and contemplating it always is beneficial for us.
Sometimes the smallest detail can have the greatest effect and be so incredibly awesome! I feel that I have been reawakened once again (without being hurt in the process) to life's miraculous capabilities. We are too often awakened only by experiences that shock us.
Later, after a few days I saw an interview on CNN with the famous cellist, Yo Yo Ma who has been giving concerts in Mammoth cave in Kentucky (which is the biggest cave in the world) and who is a spiritual guide. He was saying that humanity needs to first decide what our purpose is. This opened a way of thinking to me. We have a resurging purpose to return to the sources of our forbears and roots and to also discover and share the wonders and marvels of creation. We have a need to gather together.
Our purpose is to unravel the mysteries around us and to produce for the common good like a bee hive or an ant social system. Or flocks of a same feather.
Can there be a greater purpose than sharing and doing for others? I think not! Try it! Just try it out! And let that inexplicable force somehow help you, lift you, and even save you from a tragic fall!
