It is early for Mother’s
day in Argentina and late for Mother's Day in the United States, but today
(August 11) was my mother's birthday (Patricia Mary Schreiner Wagener). I
remember back to the 60's when my mother and family were so happy to have a
Catholic President in the United States.
After living in Argentina for 21 some years, I am so happy to have a
Pope who speaks English so well! And who
has such a good sense of humor! So, we
have been asked to write a poem that has to do with Saint Paul (the disciple
who got blinded on the road to Damascus).
Thinking of this, and Mother Mary, I wrote the following poem... It is
simple English and I dedicate it especially to the Legion of Mary, of which I
am a member!

THE CHURCH'S
LIVING MOTHER
Blinding light!
Breezes of gentle interceding might!
I have lived a life
that shows that all that glitters is not gold...
That there arrives the time to care for nature, the weak and
for us who get more old...
A life that makes us
think, “what about mercy, what are true riches?”
Filled with gatherings, activities, and international
dishes?
I have lived a life very sociable and sharing,
From my contemplation tasks and works, I transmit what I
have been bearing.
Hoping others will
also find the passage of light, so kind,
(Much like Saint Paul),
but without going blind!
Some think of me as
poet, Saint, teacher, prophet, friend, or an “other”...
In the final analysis I am a simply...a mother!
This motherly love is
the drink of the Holy Grail.
We are a continuing Spirit... human and humbly speaking, quite
female!
