(By: Karla Wagener. July is a month in which many countries have Independence day. Happy Independence Day!)

     "Angel of God.
      My guardian dear".

Contemplating and continuing on the subject of balancing the spiritual with the psychological, I think about what my psychiatrist told me when we were talking not too long ago about how fragile I felt. He said, "like all persons of faith and prayer, I need for you to be strong".

Hahaha!

Besides being a person of great faith all my life, I have come to appreciate the benefits of analysis, especially when done with a proficient professional.

Considering past, future, present, mixed together like the filming in a movie...

A Cat with grandma at 2 years old in Isabel, South Dakota. Grandma Esther laughing hard (a laugh that would stay forever) saying, "look how big that cat is. It's bigger than her". That cat seemed so huge, nothing bigger!

Horse 🐴 doll at about 3. A picture was taken. I imagined training and pacifying it. Can a three year old be aware of that?

Dressed as a nun at 7 for the school play. Wondering about my role and particularly contemplating the Bishop, and all the community in the play. Can a 7 year old think so deeply?

Communion at 8. Being dressed, age 9, as an Angel at my brother Kurt's communion. Dad joking about my being the answer to whether priests should marry and similar joking.

Confirmation at 11. Near or on Saint Patrick's day. Mom's name Patricia. My brother Kurt and I having Confirmation together, both taking the Patrick, Patricia name, marked by the meaning of "Patria".

The nuns and childhood Masses instilling mission, knowledge, and the understanding of what "Pascua" means, especially just before my family moved from South Dakota to New Mexico when I was an easily impressed adolescent. In those days it was like going to another country. New Mexico was practically still Mexico.

Then the feeling to need to go out of USA at 22 years old, and going to South America. I would return here many times and reside here since 1987.

Then a mobilizing dream about Bishops, the confession and light.

Meeting Bergoglio 1997, telling him I had a dream about him.
Later coming across Bergoglio in
Masses, and giving him my short writings.
Mass with Joaquin Sucunza on Friday
in 2002, during Adoration of the Sacred Host. He said he was going to The Vatican the next day. I gave him the prayer of The Sacred Heart of Jesus that I had been praying diligently and still pray daily with other prayers. I told him, "Take this to the Pope".

I'm not saying this means things will be easy. However, the events of my life can show greater workings over the slowness of time. In fact, we must prepare for what will come. Preparing makes us stronger, as does remembering the purpose we have felt.

I started doing pilates 3 years ago. We are eating healthier. I do 4 kilometers on the stationary bike Monday through Friday. I walk and practice the guitar as often as possible. It happened a little at a time and I now realize I have begun preparing my mind, body and spirit. Perhaps it is a reaction to the difficult times before us. I encourage you to prepare. This way our delicate existence becomes strong and we'll be in shape to help others, maybe even psychiatrists in this crazy, sometimes hard to understand world! Hahaha!
