Composicion No. 4

RABANITOS RANCIOS

A Osvaldo le gustaban muchísimo los rabanitos.

El jardinero cuidaba las tierras que Osvaldo había asignado para cosechar verduras y él era una persona muy prudente.  

Un día coloco un cartel que decía, "No coman los rabanitos.  

Están rancios por la orina de perro".

El cartel permaneció ahí por varios meses.

Osvaldo observo que los rabanitos, que al tanto le gustaban, habían desaparecido del campito.

"Algo extraño pasa", pensó él.

Entonces, se acercó a la casa del jardinero y pidió un vaso de agua.

Cuando el jardinero abrió la puerta de la heladera, Osvaldo observo que estaba lleno de rabanitos.

Él preguntó al jardinero sobre los rabanitos.

"A mí me gustan mucho los rabanitos", confeso el jardinero.

Osvaldo respondió, "A mí también me gustan mucho los rabanitos.  ¡Compartamos los!".

El jardinero se vio forzado a ceder.

Desde ese día, Osvaldo y el jardinero compartían los rabanitos.

 Cuestionario:

1.  ¿Una parte del campito, estaba destinada a la cosecha de hortalizas?

2.  ¿Estaban rancios los rabanitos realmente?

3.  ¿Que observo Osvaldo con respecto  a los rabanitos?

Passage No. 4-

RANCID RADISHES

Osvaldo loved radishes.

A gardener took care of the lands that Osvaldo had assigned to harvest vegetables. The gardener was a very prudent person.

One day he put up a sign that read, "Do not eat the radishes. Rancid because of dog urine".  

The sign stayed there for several months.

Because he liked radishes so much, Osvaldo noticed that the radishes disappeared from the fields.

"Something strange is going on", he thought.

He went to the gardener's quarters and asked for a glass of water.

When the gardener opened the refrigerator door Osvaldo noticed that it was full of radishes.

He asked the gardener about the radishes.

"I love radishes", the Gardener confessed.

Osvaldo replied, "I love radishes too.  Let's share them¨.

The gardener was forced to concede.

From that day forward Osvaldo and the gardener shared the radishes.

Questions:

1. Was some of the land used to grow vegetables?

2. Did something spoil the radishes?  Explain.

3. Did Osvaldo notice that the radishes disappeared?

4. Did Osvaldo find the radishes?  Explain.

5. What did the gardener and Osvaldo have in common?

Composición Nº 3

LA SECRETARIA ESPAÑOLA

Francisco  residía en  Argentina.  

Su secretaria era una mujer española, joven, radiante y de buena presencia.  

Ella vino a vivir a la Argentina y Francisco le dio  trabajo.

Ella era muy trabajadora y Francisco estaba contento con esto.

 Un día, el hermano de Francisco llego a la oficina.  

Francisco no estaba consciente de los cambios, pero algo era distinto.

  Meses después, la hija de Francisco, estando en la casa de su abuela, vio una foto.

 "¡Mira, papa!  Es tu secretaria con mi tío", exclamo la niña. 

Y fue así, como Francisco perdió una secretaria, pero gano una gran cuñada.

 ¡Luego, el hermano de Francisco se trasladó a España y ahora es dueño de un importante restaurante italiano, junto con su esposa (la ex- secretaria)!

Cuestionario:

1.  Describe a la secretaria de Francisco.

Composición No. 2

 LA TIA MELLIZA

Como Francisco había nacido antes que su tía, le parecía extraño que el pudiera ser el sobrino.

La tía de Francisco nació aproximadamente seis meses después que Él.  

La madre de Francisco trabajaba como maestra, es por eso que la abuela debió cuidar de Él y de su Tía al mismo tiempo.

Uno se sentaba a su derecha y el otro a su izquierda.  Ellos se criaban juntos y sentían que eran  mellizos.  

Era verdaderamente algo especial  verlos.  La tía era más joven que su sobrino, pero esto no causaba problemas.

Esto, era en realidad, algo bueno. ¿Esto resultaba confuso?  Lo que hay que saber es que Francisco adora a su tía.

Cuestionario:  

1.  ¿Francisco es mayor que su tía? ¿Por cuánto tiempo?

2.  ¿Trabajaba la mama de Francisco?  ¿De que trabajaba?

3.  ¿Francisco, quería a su tía?

4.  Describe el parentesco, que se presenta en esta composición.

5.  ¿Tú tienes tíos o tías? Comenta sobre parientes.

No. 2

THE TWIN AUNT

Since Francisco was born first it seemed strange that he was the nephew.  His Aunt was born about six months after Francisco.  His mother worked as a teacher so Francisco´s grandmother took care of both Francisco and her daughter, the Aunt, at the same time.

One was on the right and one was on the left.  They were very close and almost like twins.  It was quite a sight to see.  The Aunt was younger than the nephew, but it wasn't a problem.  It was actually a good thing.  Is this confusing?  What you should know is that Francisco likes his Aunt very much

Questions:

1.  Was Francisco older than his Aunt and by how much? 

2.  Did Francisco’s mother work in a job and what did she do?  

3.  Did Francisco like his Aunt?  

4.  Describe the relationships in the passage?  

5.  Do you have any aunts or uncles?  Talk about relationships.

El museo es un edificio en donde se exhibe objetos de interés histórico, científico o artístico.

Las personas pueden visitarlos y aprender de ellos.  A algunas personas les gustan los museos, y otras personas los encuentran aburridos.

Los museos modernos intentan exhibir atracciones especiales para las personas que los visitan.

En muchos se puede encontrar computadores, ascensores particulares, aparatos eléctricos, u otras maneras para exponer y contar la información al respecto de los objetos en los museos.

La mayor parte de los museos intentan capturar al ojo, oído y prácticamente todos los sentidos de los visitantes.

Cuestionario:

1 ¿Qué objetos se encuentra en un museo?

2. ¿A las personas les gusta el museo?

3.  ¿Hoy en día, qué novedades se encuentran en los museos?

4.  ¿Los museos a veces tienen computadores?

MUSEUMS

A museum is a building where objects of historic, scientific or artistic interests are kept. Museums have many interesting items.

People can go to see them and learn from them.  Some people like museums, but some people find them boring. 

Modern-day museums try to have special attractions for the people that go to them.

Many have computers, special elevators, electrical devices, or other means to show and tell the information about the objects in the museum. 

Most museums try to catch the eye, ears and virtually all of the senses of their visitors.

Questions:

1. What objects can be found in a museum?

2. Do people like museums?

3. What innovations do museums use nowadays?

4. Do museums use computers?

5. Tell about an experience in a museum.

Dreams are Hope - Prologue

 

PROLOGUE – DREAMS ARE HOPE

Sometimes one finds happiness when they least expect it.  Happiness often turns up ¨out of the blue¨.  Or perhaps we learn to appreciate what we already have, and are able to fulfill dreams.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis found wellbeing in the simple things of life, as the end of her life came about.  As she wrote to a friend, ¨being with you would make me laugh.  The greatest healer! This is your gift… I shall look forward to our doing something together in a while when all this first part is over…¨

Many people who seek after fame, riches or power, finally recapture their lives wondering at how the key to happiness is often in pleasures such as family, friendship and work.

Jacqueline also said, ¨You have to do something you enjoy.  That is the definition of happiness:  the complete use of one´s faculties along the lines leading to excellence in a life affording them scope¨.

Some say happiness is the right balance, others say it is sharing and caring for others, perhaps developing skills and abilities. There are some that say happiness does not exist at all!

James Allen, an English writer made many inspirational comments like, ¨The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good.  Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom¨, or ¨Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day become; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.”

So, be encouraged to dream and create. Experiencing life through imagination will develop character, and practice positive conversation because it adds much to life.

Here are some lyrics of a song about hope that I wrote in Spanish and then translated into another version in English.  Luciano Buongiorno (Musician and friend) put the music. Later he translated it into an Italian version.

Whatever the language, hope grows when we sing and dream, and make use of healthy communication.  Also, if we can make music and conversation out of the tough times that makes even the clouds worthwhile! The purpose of this book is to encourage positive conversations.

Note that Dreams are Hope has a version in English and a version in Spanish. It is not intended to be an exact translation.

PRÓLOGO - LOS SUEÑOS SON ESPERANZA

A veces uno encuentra la felicidad cuando menos la espera.  La felicidad a menudo surge "de la nada".  O tal vez aprendamos a apreciar lo que ya tenemos al cumplir los alcanzando a realizar los sueños.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis encontró el bienestar en las cosas simples de la vida, cuando se acercaba el final de su vida. Como le escribió a un amigo, “estar contigo me haría reír. ¡La mejor sanación! Este es tu regalo ... Espero con ansias que hagamos algo juntos en un tiempo cuando toda esta primera parte haya terminado ... ¨

Muchas personas que corren atrás de la fama, la riqueza o el poder, finalmente, recuperan su esencia preguntándose en cuáles son las claves de la felicidad y descubren que es a menudo en los placeres como la familia, la amistad y el trabajo.

Jacqueline también dijo: “Uno Tiene que hacer algo que disfrute. Esa es la definición de felicidad: el uso completo de las propias facultades en la línea que conduce a la excelencia en una vida que les dé solidez”.

Algunos dicen que la felicidad es el equilibrio correcto, otros dicen que es compartir con otros, y cuidar a los demás, o quizás desarrollando habilidades y destrezas. ¡Hay algunos que dicen que la felicidad no existe en absoluto!

James Allen, un escritor inglés hizo muchos comentarios inspiradores como, ¨Cuanto más tranquilo se vuelve un hombre, mayor es su éxito, su influencia, su poder para el bien.  La calma de la mente es una de las hermosas joyas de la sabiduría”, o “Sueña sueños nobles, y así como sueñas, así te convertirás. Tu visión es la promesa de lo que serás un día; tu ideal es la profecía de lo que finalmente desvelarás”.

Así que anímate a soñar y crear. Experimentar la vida a través de la imaginación que desarrolla el carácter, y practique el Arte de la conversación positiva porque esto agrega mucho a la vida. 

El propósito de este libro es animarnos a hacer conversaciones positivas.

Aquí hay algunas letras de una canción sobre la esperanza que escribí en español y luego traduje al inglés. Luciano Buongiorno (músico y amigo) puso la música, y luego lo tradujo al italiano. Cualquiera que sea el idioma, la esperanza crece cuando cantamos, soñamos y hacemos comunicación saludable.  

Además, cuando hacemos música y conversaciones de los tiempos difíciles esto hace valer hasta las nubes.

Sueños son Esperanza tiene una versión en español y una en inglés.  No son traducciones exactas, si no versiones propias.
