LA PRACTICA ANTICUADO DE PELUQUERÍA

¡Los romanos tenían navajas!   También los griegos, los egipcios y los chinos antiguos.  Se han encontrado navajas en desechos de la edad de piedra.  Los peluqueros antiguamente servían como cirujanos y dentistas, que hizo aparecer el famoso polo con una venda ensangrentada envuelta alrededor.  Este llegó a ser una especie de "tótem" de peluquero.   Además, ellos practicaban enemas y  la práctica de sacar sangre.

De hecho, llevo siglos para que cirujanos legítimos desenreden de los así nombrados ¡"cirujanos-peluqueros"!  Desarrolló un "culto" de refugios masculinos, con su pila de revistas, los clientes regulares y los chismes.

Hoy en día, la gente se frecuenta a estilistas, pero algunos pocos peluqueros de antaño todavía existen.  Buscando cerca de algún palacio de justicio o edificio de oficinas en el centro encontrarás el verdadero peluquero de 40 minutos, ¡con su navaja de mano afilado prolijamente y el cepillo ligero!

THE ANCIENT PRACTICE OF BARBERING

The Romans had razors!  So did the Greeks, the Egyptians, and the ancient Chinese.  Razors have even been found in late Stone Age dumps.  Barbers doubled as surgeons and dentists in the old days, which brought about the bloodstained bandage wrapped around a pole.  This became the barber's totem.  They also gave enemas and practiced bloodletting.  

In fact, it took centuries for bona fide surgeons to untangle themselves from so-called barber-surgeons. It was not until after the Civil War, about 1864 that what we know as the barbershop appeared in the United States.  It brought with it a cult of the male hideouts, complete with its pile of magazines, its hangers-on and their gossip. 

Nowadays, people go to hair stylists, but a few old-style barbers are still around.  You have to search deep in the courthouse or an old downtown office building to find your true 40-minute barber, with his superbly sharp hand scissors and his quick dusting brush!
