THE SPANISH SECRETARY

Passage No. 3 – (May 11, 1999)

Francisco lived in Argentina.  His secretary was a bright, good-looking young woman from Spain.  She came to live in Argentina and got a job with Francisco.  She worked hard and  Francisco was very happy.  One day Francisco's brother came to the office.  Francisco did not notice any changes, but something was different.  Then one day a few months later, Francisco's daughter saw a picture in Francisco's mother's house.  "Look, Father!  It is your secretary with my Uncle".  Francisco lost a secretary, but gained a great sister-in-law.  Francisco's brother later moved to Spain and now owns an important Italian restaurant there with his secretary-wife!

Questions:

1.  What did Francisco's daughter see in her Grandmother's house?

2.  Was Francisco happy with his secretary?

3.  Describe Francisco's secretary?

After reading my sister-in-law, Deborah Wagener’s, book, “i am who i am because of the I AM”, the following bilingual poem came to my mind.

Al leer el libro “yo soy quien soy, por El “YO SOY”, escrito por mi cuñada, Deborah Wagener, me ocurrió el siguiente poema bilingüe.

para decir "nacer" en ingles formamos el verbo "to be" (conjugado) con el participio pasado "born".

"both" quiere decir "ambos"

 THE TWIN AUNT/LA TIA MELLIZA

 Since Francisco was born first it seemed strange that he was the nephew.  Como Francisco habia nacido antes que su tia, le parecia extraño que el pudiera ser el sobrino.

His Aunt was born about six months after Francisco.  La tia de Francisco, nacio aproximadamente, seis meses despues que El. 

His mother worked as a teacher so the grandmother took care of both Francisco and the Aunt at the same time.  La madre de Francisco trabajaba como maestra, es por eso que la abuela debio cuidar de El y de su Tía al mismo tiempo.

One was on the right and one was on the left.  They were very close and almost like twins.  Uno se sentaba a su derecha y el otro a su izquierda.  Ellos se criaban juntos y sentian que eran  mellizos. 

It was quite a sight to see.  The Aunt was younger than the nephew, but it wasn't a problem.  Era verdaderamente algo especial  verlos.  La tia era mas joven que su sobrino , pero esto no causaba problemas .

It was actually a good thing.  Esto, era en realidad, algo bueno.  Is this confusing?  ¿Esto resultaba confuso?  What you should know is that Francisco likes his Aunt very much.  Lo que hay que saber es que Francisco adora a su tia.

It is a huge country with a strong influence on the U.S. 

Es un pais enorme y tiene una influencia vigorosa de Estados Unidos.

Many Mexican people live on the borderlands, and it is an entryway from South America to the United States.

 Muchos mexicanos viven cerca de la frontera.  Esta es como un portico desde America del Sur hasta Estados Unidos. 

It is like a huge gateway. 

Esta se parece a una enorme entrada.

Many parts of the U.S. were once Mexico and the Spanish language, Catholic Religion, and other aspects of Mexican culture are still present.

Muchas regiones de Estados Unidos, han pertenecido alguna vez a Mexico, y la lengua española, la Religión Católica, y otros aspectos de la cultura mexicana están todavía presentes.

PROLOGO

A veces sentimos que "algo" falta en nuestras vidas y no nos damos cuenta que es.
Hasta que llega el día que de pronto, ese "algo" que desconocíamos aparece.
Tal vez...
¿ Podría ser, que cada uno de nosotros esperemos la llegada de un gran amor, el cumplimiento de algo que nos ha sido prometido, alcanzar nuestros sueños e ideales o lograr realizar aquello  que nos ha sido prohibido?

Este sentimiento, que revolotea y destella a nuestro alrededor, se asemeja a luciérnagas volando por la noche.  Tratamos de poseerlo, aunque sea una pequeña parte de él.                                                                                   Nadie tiene una situación perfecta, pero... ¿Hasta qué punto más lejano de la perfección deseamos ir?

 ¿Qué objetivos  deberíamos lograr para llegar a esa perfección??
  ¿Serán  ellos el valor, la  intimidad, la confianza, la fe, o es simplemente lo que la mayoría de las personas creemos tan necesario para nuestras vidas?

- ¡¿el "viejo" y "buen" dinero?!

 ¿En dónde se encuentran las llaves, que abren las puertas de la felicidad y la paz?
¿Serán ellas alcanzables?  Y en el caso de que lo sean  ¿Qué es lo que nos detiene a conseguirlas? 

Este libro ofrece una variedad de experiencias, vistas desde las perspectivas de un  niño, ya que los niños, son los que realmente tienen las respuestas. Es un libro para aprender a leer, escrito en un  inglés básico, con preguntas para estimular  la conversación. 

El libro se compone de tres secciones, que incluyen 30 composiciones cada una.

This book offers a variety of experiences seen from a childlike perspective.  For it is the children who really have the answers.  It is a Reader, written to practice English, and translated into Spanish, with questions to stimulate conversation.

 Si pudiera hacer una canción...

Un canto, más que canto, una bendición...

Si pudiera llevar la misa

A la calle, o al des acampanado y su brisa...

Si pudiera cantar el amor almacenado,

Cumplir la voluntad de lo más alto,

Comunicar con los animales,

O elevar a la mente al nivel de los ángeles...

Si consigo mejorarme aunque sea un poquito,

Esforzarme, cumplir metas, vivir plenamente...

THE FATHER´S SAD SONG 

This song is about my father's words to me on my trip to the U.S., in 1998-1999.  I thought about my father´s words to me after returning to Argentina after a two week visit, then in June the song came to me with music.  It was near father´s day.

From a collection of poems called "Thanksgiving", dedicated to my father for his birthday which is on Valentine’s Day.

(Dedicado a mi padre para su cumpleaños en el día de San Valentino - el 14 de febrero, o sea el Día de Los Enamorados).  Escrito a base de las últimas palabras que nos dijo cuando nos saludamos en el viaje para volver a la Argentina desde Estados Unidos, en el año 1998-(1999).  Volví a la argentina desde estados unidos en enero, y muchas veces pensaba en las palabras de mi papa y en junio, cerca del Día del Padre, de pronto, me vino la canción.
