POEM: "A DEAL"

(I have the custom of making a New Year’s Resolution each year.  In December, 2013, my friend, Graciela, asked me if I was going to make one this year.  She gave me a book for Christmas called, “Los cinco minutos de Dios”, which are short passages to read each day.  The one for today talks about the need to have an ideal in life.  It gave me the idea for this poem, and there is a play on words with “a deal” and “ideal”!  So this is dedicated to Graciela for her cumple on February 23^rd!)

A DEAL

A society of consumption makes everyone negotiate,

From good, or bad, from love to hate.

So as a guide to Spirit, let me tell you this year

What we plan to do in the personal, and make this clear!

Writing, or other actions, and give the best we can.

Reunions and singing,

Visit the needy and bringing,

What is needed for the weak and sick,

Good food and Spirit will surely do the trick!

Get together to organize, making sketches, or reciting poems,

Help lost souls to find decent homes.

Take the Virgin to the ancient, neighbors, the young,

Many a song to be sung!

And in the tradition of Faith, aware of the signs, with ideals,

Share, in communion, many meals!

Try to keep away from the heat or bitter cold.

Face the fact, although I may feel young in Spirit, each day a little more old!!!
