QUILTS OF ECUADOR/LAS COLCHAS DE ECUADOR

A quilt is a decorative cover for a bed made of cloth filled with thick soft material which is sewn in place.

Una colcha, es una cubierta decorativa  para cama, realizada en  tela y rellena con un material suave y espeso que se cose fijándolo bien en su lugar.

 A patchwork quilt is made from leftover pieces of cotton material and other scraps.

El "Patchwork" o “labor de retazos” esta realizado con retazos de tela de algodón o de otras telas, que se unen entre si.

Alessandra inherited such a quilt from her great-Aunt.

 Alexandra, heredo una colcha que pertenecía a su tía abuela. 

It was an historical item which had all the squares of material sewn together in an array of multi-colored joy.

 Era un artículo histórico, realizado con cuadrados de telas cosidos entre si, de alegres y brillantes colores.

When Alessandra flew over Quito, Ecuador last January she noticed that the lands surrounding Quito were exactly like a quilt.

  Cuando en Enero, Alejandra realizo un viaje en avión,  y voló sobre Quito, Ecuador, notó que las tierras del lugar parecían exactamente una colcha.

There were brown, orange and yellow squares that appeared to be all sewn together surrounding the hills about Quito.

Había cuadrados de color marrón, naranja y amarillo, que parecían estar cosidos juntos alrededor de las sierras de Quito.

The Earth lay out like a huge bed and Alessandra dreamed of the past,of the times of her great-Aunt, as she fell asleep on the plane.

 La tierra se extendía como una cama gigantesca y Alessandra soñaba cosas del pasado, de los momentos vividos con su tía abuela, mientras se quedaba dormida en el avión.

Alessandra dreamed of the past, of the times of her great-Aunt.

Many questions formed in the past use the verb "to do" in the past form: "did", and another verb which is not congugated.  For example:  "What did Alessandra see from the window?" “Do” gets put in the past, but the other verb, “see” is in the base form, and is not congugated!”

Se forma muchas preguntas en ingles en el pasado, usando el pasado de "hacer": "did", y otro verbo que no se conjuga.  Por ejemplo:  "What did Alessandra see from the window?"  ¡Se cambia "hacer" al pasado, pero el otro verbo esta en su forma base, y este no se conjuga!
